Could someone explain the difference between this and the bond yield? Why does this go up when the yield goes down?

Because the government bond is issued in $100,00 increments at a specific rate known as “coupon rate”. The current issuance of the 30yr bond was at 2%. If you bought 1 bond for $100,000 that matures in 30 yrs and yeilds 2% and the market is now yeilding 1.5% your bond would be worth more than 100,000 if you were to sell it, correct? (You would expect a premium for this because you are holding an instrumwnt that has a greater return than the going rate)

Yield is invese of bond price. As bond prices go up yield goes down and vice versa.

It's an inverese relationship. As the price moves higher, yield drops and vice versa.

My opinion, rises again as yields crash again, but wont break the 191 high, tops in the mid 180’s and starts a slow downward trajectory. Just my take

also the reason why I think we probably topped is that the long bond went no offer 191'22 which seemed like capitulation move.

I actually sensed the 30 year was getting close to a top. If not for the oil shock i think Friday last week would have marked the top. 5% gain in a day is highly unusual and seems like a very sellable level with some lessening panic.

Ladies and gentlemen I do believe we have topped in the long bond. took all off. I strongly suggest staying long the 2year. also suggest steepener trades as previously outlined.

"short inflation" bets have largely run their course, with more Fed cuts and QE and extreme dovish easing we will see long end rates start to move higher/long bond move lower in price. Curve generally steepens into the teeth of a recession.

Hello it's your resident super bull. Things are starting to get frothy on the long end of the curve. I recommend starting some steepener trades (long 2 year, short 10 year...or long 5 year, short 30...in correct ratios.). I am getting closer to cutting all my longs in 30 year.

Look up CME interest rate futures inter commodity spreads for correct ratios of these products if you are in the US futures market.
